Widespread hair loss in the telogen phase

Diffuse hair loss in the telogen phase (Telogen effluvium) is the second most common form of hair loss after androgenetic alopecia (hereditary hair loss). Telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia cover 95% of hair loss forms. It can be acute or chronic.

Telogenous effluvium (disseminated hair loss) is acute, where hair loss is rapid, intense, and occurs unexpectedly, usually caused by body stress or fever. It may be delayed when it occurs several months after severe physical or emotional stress. Extreme psychological or physical stress can be the first basis for serious illness, death, birth, intense decline. Telogen effluvium is chronic when the decline lasts for months or years. If you have a genetic predisposition, telogen effluvium can induce or be the basis for the onset of androgenetic alopecia. Alopecia may not have been recognized until then.

There are several causes of telogen effluvium.

There are three categories of causes: psychological, injury or stress/illness, and medication. Psychological effluvium may be the first stage of androgenetic alopecia. Stress or illness as a cause of widespread hair loss can occur as a result of protein diets, high fever, loss of appetite, iron deficiency, hypothyroidism, polycystic ovaries, surgery, serious illnesses, serious infections, severe stress. Some drugs, for example: anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, antikeratinizing drugs, heavy metals, contraceptives, etc. can cause widespread hair loss

Symptoms of telogen effluvium include:

hair loss, widespread hair loss all over the scalp and increased hair loss (on the floor, on the pillow, after washing, etc.) Although normal hair loss is around 100 hairs per day, people with telogen effluvium lose 100-400 fibers per day. . Sometimes hair loss can go unnoticed. Another symptom, especially in chronic effluvium, is a feeling of pain in the scalp or a tingling sensation in the skin when the hair feels pulled. This is called tricodynia, and about 1/3 of people with telogen effluvium experience it.
