Hair loss treatment
Hardly any part of our body says as much about us as our hair! Whether short or long, straight or wavy – while the hairstyle reflects the personal taste and often the character of the wearer, the structure of the hair root is directly influenced by genetic heredity. But diseases and everyday factors such as diet and styling also have an effect on the scalp and hair.
Hair loss, long referred to as a “male problem” only, affects many women as well. However, modern medicine now knows numerous therapies to stop hair loss and, if necessary, to stimulate hair growth again.
What are the causes of hair loss?
First of all: There is no such thing as hair loss. In addition to circular hair loss and so-called receding hairline, in many cases there is also general thinning of the hair (diffuse hair loss). The loss of some or all hair on the head can be hereditary (androgenetic alopecia) or it can be caused by a disease. Hair loss can also occur as a side effect of certain medications or treatments (e.g. stopping or changing birth control pills), due to lack of sleep or stress, or as a result of improper hair care. The first step in treating hair loss is to diagnose the exact cause. This is done by a dermatologist during a personal consultation.
How is hair loss diagnosed?
We lose hair every day – up to 100 hairs are quite normal. If the number is significantly higher, a dermatologist should be consulted to assess the cause. A plucking test in front of the mirror at home can provide initial information. If individual hairs together with the hair root can be pulled out of the scalp with a gentle pull, this usually means there is pathological hair loss.
Each diagnosis is preceded by a detailed discussion between the specialist and the patient. First of all, certain questions about previous illnesses, hormonal changes, nutrition or possible stress factors are clarified. The dermatologist will find out more after a blood analysis. A blood sample is taken and analyzed in the laboratory. Based on these results, the further procedure can be determined.
Which treatments help against acute hair loss?
If those affected by hair loss consult a dermatologist at an early stage, there is a good chance of stopping the hair loss and promoting hair growth. Once the cause has been determined, it is important to actively combat the trigger. If, for example, hair loss is caused by a lack of nutrients, a change in diet or the additional intake of special vitamin, magnesium, calcium or iron supplements can stop the hair loss. In addition to therapy with medication, the so-called PRP treatment, among other things, has good success in growing the thinning hair. In aesthetic wrinkle treatment, this application is also known as vampire lifting and is used to smooth wrinkles with autologous blood. If the removed and processed own blood is injected into the scalp, it stimulates the hair follicles to regenerate and thus to new growth. Thin hair can be sustainably strengthened in several applications.
