What to do about hair loss

It is normal to lose hair from our hair. People normally lose about 50-100 hairs a day, often without this being obvious. This tendency usually does not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp, as new hairs grow at the same time. Hair loss occurs when this cycle of hair growth and fall is disrupted or when the follicles are destroyed and replaced by scar tissue.

Hair loss is usually not something we should worry about, but in some cases it can be a sign of a condition.

It affects both men and women and if it is intense it can cause stress for the appearance. It can be seasonal or chronic. Seasonal hair loss affects both sexes, while chronic hair mainly affects men.

Chronic species include male or female baldness. This species is usually found in families.

Seasonal species can be caused by disease, stress, cancer treatment, weight loss or iron deficiency.

Cause

The most common cause of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, while there is also female androgenetic alopecia.

Sometimes, hair loss can be the result of a health problem that needs to be resolved and will disappear when the problem is properly treated.

Usually hair loss is associated with one or more of the following factors:

Family history (heredity). The most common cause of hair loss is male or female pattern baldness.

Hormonal changes and medical conditions. Various diseases can cause permanent or temporary hair loss, such as hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and thyroid problems (hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism).

Hair loss can also be caused by certain medications such as those used in cancer, arthritis, depression, heart disease, hypertension and contraceptives.

Hair loss can also be caused by infections of the scalp and hair loss.

Many people can experience thinning hair several months after a stressful event after a physical or emotional shock. This type of hair loss is seasonal.

Radiation to the head. In this case the hair may not be done as before.

Risk factors

Various factors can affect the risk of hair loss such as:

  • Family history of baldness
  • Age
  • Significant weight loss
  • Medical conditions such as diabetes or lupus erythematosus
  • Stress

Prevention

Most cases of baldness are caused by genetic factors. This factor can not be prevented.

For seasonal hair loss you can pay attention to the following:

  • Pay attention to your diet, ie food and quantity. For example, a variety of whole grain foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals will help stimulate the body and the areas responsible for hair growth.
  • Protect your hair from the sun and other sources of ultraviolet radiation.
  • Hydration can also help prevent hair loss, as well as exercise, generally boosting your body and your health.
  • Quit smoking. Research has shown a link between smoking and baldness in men.
  • Reduce stress. You can achieve this with yoga or meditation.
  • Wash and brush the hair gently and avoid bothering to catch the ponytails or wrap them in hot rolls.

Although many conditions that lead to seasonal hair loss go away without treatment or simply with lifestyle changes, other events can be a sign of potentially irreversible loss or disease.

Others may respond well to treatments that promote hair growth, so getting started early is the key.
