What is vitamin B ?
When someone goes to the supermarket and carefully reads the described composition of certain products on their packaging, they usually find vitamin B.
This vitamin is not an independent one, but rather it is a complex group made up of a total of 8. Of this group, the most common that we usually find are B1, B2, B12 or folic acid.
The head of Nutrition and Health at Nestlé, Anabel Aragón, details that these 8 vitamins are not chemically related to each other but generally tend to appear together in the same elements, working as a team and performing important functions in the metabolism of cells.
Vitamin B can favor the nervous system, the immune system, the skin and even muscle tone.
Where is the vitamin B?
Vitamin B must be ingested daily because “as they are water-soluble, they do not accumulate in our body and also, when cooking certain foods -depending on time and temperature- they can also be lost,” explains Aragón.
This vitamin can be found in a large group of foods, especially in whole grains, rice, oats, wheat germ or in the pillar of the Mediterranean diet, legumes.
The nutritionist makes a distinction between foods based on the vitamins mentioned above:
- B1: Cereals, legumes, yeast
- B2: Liver, eggs, dairy
- B12: In foods of animal origin
- Folic acid: In green leafy vegetables such as spinach or Swiss chard
