What is skin cancer?

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, and skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. About 20-30% of melanomas appear in moles on the skin, while 70-80% arise on normal-looking skin.

What are the types and forms of skin cancer?

The skin consists of several layers, and the type or shape of skin cancer varies depending on the type of skin cells from which the tumor originated. It is worth noting that the symptoms and treatment of skin cancer differ according to the type of cancer that the patient has.

Types of skin cancer:

Basal melanoma

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type, and basal cell carcinoma arises from basal cells in the upper layers of the skin.

Squamous cell carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma, also called squamous cell carcinoma, arises in the flat squamous cells of the skin.

Melanoma skin cancer

Melanoma arises in the melanocytes responsible for giving the skin its color, and it is one of the most dangerous and least common types of skin cancer. Melanoma is the most common type in children.

In both basaloid melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma, the cancer is unlikely to spread to other parts of the body, but it can cause significant disfigurement of the skin if not treated early.

In the case of melanoma, although it is rare, it is very aggressive and tends to spread to other parts of the body early and strongly. Therefore, this type of skin cancer may be fatal if it is not detected and treated early.

Other types of skin cancer

Other forms of skin cancer are types of cancer that affect tissues and other components of the skin, including:

  • Merkel cell carcinoma.
  • Sarcoma.
  • Sweat gland tumors.
  • Kaposi sarcoma.
