What is gynecomastia in men?

Gynecomastia in men is defined as the sagging appearance of the breast in men and a benign (non-malignant) increase in its size as a result of an imbalance in the ratios between male and female hormones (testosterone and estrogen levels) in men, which leads to an increase in the ducts and branches of the breast in men and the spread of glands and lumps around the nipple in men. Excess fat in the breast causes what is known as false gynecomastia, and gynecomastia is divided into two types: homogeneous gynecomastia affecting both breasts and heterogeneous gynecomastia affecting one breast without the other.

The problem of gynecomastia in men extends to affect health and cause diseases such as diabetes, stress, low libido and other diseases until it turns from a mere cosmetic problem to a problem that must be solved.

Causes of gynecomastia in men

Degrees of gynecomastia in men

There are also degrees of gynecomastia in men, and the doctor diagnoses based on the need for surgery or not.

First degree

In which gynecomastia is in the form of a protrusion around the nipple and cannot be diagnosed easily. At this stage, the doctor advises to exercise and some medications

Second degree

In this degree, the swelling around the nipple increases to reach the areola of the breast in men, but no extra skin or sagging is noticed. In this degree also, the doctor may not resort to surgery, but to exercise and prescribe medications or liposuction, based on the doctor’s diagnosis

Third degree

Where swelling begins to appear even when wearing normal clothes and not tight, and in this case the doctor may resort to surgically removing the excess tissue.

Fourth degree

At this stage, the shape of the breast in men is closer to the shape of a woman’s breast, in which the doctor resorts to surgery to remove the enlarged tissue, but he may need to use some medications at first before surgery to reduce swelling.

Treatment of gynecomastia in men without surgery

Gynecomastia is treated without surgery by taking some treatments that increase the level of testosterone, and diet modification methods can also be used to reduce the amount of food that causes an imbalance in hormones, such as soybean products, regular exercise contributes to reducing the problem of gynecomastia treatment. and treatment.
