The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation can be performed under general or local anaesthesia with sedation. The incisions are made at the junction between the areola and the skin (periareolar) or along the natural fold of the breast (inframammary fold), so as not to leave scars visible.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation can be performed under general or local anaesthesia with sedation. The incisions are made at the junction between the areola and the skin (periareolar) or along the natural fold of the breast (inframammary fold), so as not to leave scars visible. They allow access to an envelope under the mammary gland, in order to implant a prosthesis of suitable size and shape (silicone gel or hydrogel).

The size of your breasts must be in harmony with your body shape and proportions. It is important that you follow your plastic surgeon’s recommendations. Your doctor will conduct several tests in order to determine what type of prosthesis best suits you.

Breast augmentation has become one of the most popular treatments in plastic surgery. In Italy, it is the first treatment among surgical procedures for women.

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that consists of placing breast implants to increase the volume of the breasts and give them a rounder and more attractive look.

In some cases, this procedure can also correct a slight breast ptosis, especially when the loss of volume is limited and consecutive to pregnancy or weight loss. When the slackening is significant, the surgeon will advise doing a mammaplasty at the same time.

This procedure can also be necessary if you have very small breasts and want to feel more feminine or are not happy with your own body image.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Breast Augmentation?

Women who want to give their breasts more volume or change their shape can benefit from breast implants. Many women seek breast augmentation to:

  • Increase the size of small or underdeveloped breasts
  • Restore volume lost during pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
  • Balance asymmetrical breasts
  • Improve the overall look of your upper body

In the operating room, a general anesthetic or sedation is proposed to the patient before the procedure. The surgeon then makes a small incision in the inframammary fold (breast crease), under the armpit or around the areola, according to the technique chosen and implants the breast prostheses.

The placement of breast implants can be done with several techniques:

Sub glandular placement, that is, in front of the pectoral muscles and behind the mammary gland;

Sub muscular positioning, that is, underneath the pectoral muscles. In order to place them in this way, it will be necessary to slightly dissect this muscle on each side;

Dual plane positioning, which consists of placing part of the prosthesis under muscle and part above it. This technique is more often used when there is a lack of tissue on top of the chest wall.

Many women wish to have bigger breasts or to restore their original breast volume after losing weight or having children. Breast augmentation surgery can help you achieve your goals by:

Increasing the size of your breasts with implants

Restoring lost volume if you have lost weight, had children or are breastfeeding

Correcting asymmetry if one of your breasts is smaller than the other

Improving self-image and self-confidence
