Rhinoplasty when breathing is affected
Sometimes you may need to straighten both the outer nose and nasal septum to restore nasal breathing. The surgery is medically called rhinoseptoplasty. Nasal breathing can be affected by trauma, an injury much earlier in life, or due to self-oblique growth during growth.
Why is the nose operated?

before the operation
One week before the operation, you should not take drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid or other drugs that may have a blood thinning effect without consulting a doctor or nurse. Carefully follow the instructions that come with the invitation.
The operation and the period after it
The procedure is done under anesthesia and with day surgery, meaning you go home the same day. You will stay in the hospital for several hours after the surgery and must have an adult companion on the way home. If your relative doesn’t have access to their own car, we can help with sick leave by taxi. Please note that you must be accompanied by an adult when going home by ambulance. You should not sleep alone at home the first night.
The surgery is usually done through the nostrils and usually leaves no visible scars. In complex cases, you may need to open your nose. Then there is a very hidden wound between the nostrils.
After nose correction, a plastic “nose cast” is usually placed over the nose. It should stay for a week. Usually, a stabilizing and protective soft plastic splint is required on both sides of the nasal septum. These are removed at a repeat visit 1-2 weeks after the operation.
Hemostatic tampons are also placed. Of these, it can moisten the secretions secreted from the blood, and this is normal. Tampons are removed at home after 1-3 days. Do not hesitate to get help from someone who removes tampons while lying down. There may be some bleeding when you remove the tampons. Then lie down for 10 minutes with the head lifted up.
It is normal to have swelling and bruising around the eyes after surgery. The swelling is at its worst the first morning. For this reason, it is recommended to sleep at head height for the first few nights. After 1-2 weeks, the bruises disappear.
After the operation, you can pinch the nose and, if necessary, get a prescription for painkillers. Expect to be away from work for 10 days.
Expected Result
We perform functional and reconstructive procedures to improve nasal breathing and, in some cases, appearance. We don’t just do cosmetic operations. While nasal breathing can be improved after 3 months, the final result on appearance can be safely evaluated only after 1 year.
What are the complications of the surgery?
Complications are rare but there is a risk of infection and bleeding. You should contact your healthcare provider if you have a high fever, increased pain, nasal swelling and redness, which may be signs of infection or bleeding.
For more extensive nose surgery, you will receive antibiotics for preventive purposes against infection.
