Planning of Aesthetic Nose Surgery
The most important factor when planning the surgery is the correct and good communication between the doctor and the plastic surgeon. For this reason, when deciding on surgery, more than one meeting should be planned if necessary and you should make sure that you express yourself correctly to your doctor.
Aesthetic nose surgery is planned based on the expectations of the patients from this surgery and the changes in their faces, but your doctor will tell you the possible nose shapes for you and will give you information on this subject according to the bone, cartilage and skin structure of the patient’s nose and the shape of the other parts of the face. For this reason, the photos you will show your doctor may not always be suitable for your face and nose. During these interviews, if you have previous nose surgeries, allergic conditions, medications you use, and chronic diseases, be sure to share them with your doctor.
Surgery Preparation
We stop eating and drinking activities in the last 8 hours before the surgery and we go to the hospital on the morning of the surgery. On the morning of the operation, blood tests, chest X-ray and EKG are performed as preparations for anesthesia, and after the examination, we are ready for the operation. Your doctor shares all of these plans with you during the examination.
Where Your Surgery Will Be Performed
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed in a full-fledged hospital. Usually one night stay in the hospital is required.
Type of Anesthesia to be Given
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia. In other words, you will be completely asleep throughout the operation. Before the operation, you will be examined in detail by an anesthesiologist and your tests will be evaluated.
Your surgery
Aesthetic nose surgeries take between 1-2 hours, depending on whether there is a breathing problem or the change to be made in the nose. In aesthetic nose surgeries, the nasal cartilage, skin and bone structure are separated and reshaped. All of these procedures vary according to the problems that need to be solved in the nose.
For example, if the patient has a breathing problem, if the nose is on the right or left side of the midline, the operation time and the procedures to be performed are prolonged, which causes variability in the operation time. After shaping the nasal cartilage and bones, rhinoplasty and if there is breathing problem, that is, septoplasty, the skin is re-adapted to its place.
Aesthetic nose surgeries can be performed with two different techniques. These techniques can be done by making an incision outside the nose, which we call open, or by the method where the incisions are hidden inside the nose, which we call closed technique. Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery specialists mostly perform aesthetic nose surgeries through the nose, that is, with the closed technique.
However, some of them use the open technique, especially in patients who have secondary, that is, a second surgery, or in patients with more than one big problem, which we call complicated. The incision made in the open technique is an incision of 3-4 mm from the thinnest part of the skin between the nostrils. Although the trace of this incision can be seen in the first 1-2 months, it eventually becomes vague and does not disturb the patients.
In the closed technique, since there are no incisions and the ligaments and structures that protect the nose are preserved, the closed technique is preferred if possible. A splint made of thermoplastic, metal or plaster is applied on the nose to preserve the new shape of the nose after aesthetic nose surgery in both open and closed techniques. Thanks to the nasal splint, the edema on the nose is more controlled and it becomes more protected against external impacts.
In addition, tampons with a hole in the middle, usually made of silicone, are placed inside the nostrils. Thanks to the holes in the middle of these tampons, patients can breathe, albeit a little. Tampons vary depending on whether or not the removal of the breathing problem, which we call septoplasty, is included in the aesthetic nose surgery, but they are taken on the 2nd or 7th day.
