Obesity: a condition characterized by excess fat accumulation to the point of being detrimental to health. It is one of the most common disorders in Western societies and one of the main causes of preventable disease and death in developed countries.

Hypertension: high blood pressure is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular disease because it increases blood pressure and heart rate, as well as consuming energy from cells. It also causes vascular damage that can lead to atherosclerosis.

Heart disease: these are a group of diseases caused by genetic factors, environmental.

Therefore, when we speak of nutrition, we refer to all the substances that are ingested for sustenance and that provide energy or nutrients for the body. In this way, all foods are part of a diet and can be considered as nutritional.

The importance of nutrition has been widely demonstrated, with numerous studies that have shown how some food groups or nutrients can help prevent pathological conditions. Among these diseases are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer.

In addition, to achieve adequate nutrition it is necessary to combine a balanced and varied diet with regular physical activity and periods of rest.

As it happens in other fields, the appearance of new therapies in nutrition and the improvement of previous ones have allowed to obtain increasingly effective results. Therefore, it is essential that our patients receive a dietetic treatment with the most innovative and appropriate therapeutic tools for each case.

In recent decades, the consumption of processed foods and prepared industrially has increased rapidly, as has the consumption of food and beverages rich in sugars and fats.

These dietary changes have coincided with an increase in obesity and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases (including cardiac ischemia) and cancer.

Diets that are low in fiber, high in fast carbohydrates (such as white bread or refined pasta), highly processed meats, sugars and trans fats have been proven to lead to obesity, diabetes mellitus type 2, cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer.

As we age, our needs change: our metabolism slows down; we lose muscle mass; We are more sedentary.

In addition to this, this stage is accompanied by a general decrease in appetite and a decrease in the quality of food intake.

It is for these reasons that it is important to follow a correct diet that provides us with all the nutrients necessary for our body to function properly at all times.

Among the numerous benefits of a good diet, it is worth mentioning:

Obtain a proper weight. A good diet allows you to keep your weight under control, not only by preventing overweight but also by avoiding underweight, which can also have negative consequences for health.

Prevent or treat different diseases. A healthy diet is essential to avoid cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancer and diabetes, among other conditions. It also helps treat such diseases and cope better with their treatments.

Improve the quality of life. The benefits of a balanced diet are not just physical; they also affect our mood and emotional balance. Eating well keeps us in better shape and gives us more energy to face the day with enthusiasm and optimism.
