Correction by lifting the tip of the nose
Lifting or lowering depends on whether it is a rhinoplasty that improves or corrects your profile. If you have a protruding nose, this may be corrected by lifting or lowering your nose tip at all. But if you want to get rid of an asymmetrical nose or only improve its appearance, then shaping methods are used to make sure that you get exactly what you want.
Before deciding which method will be used for correction or improvement, doctors must take into account many factors such as your age and health condition, facial features as well as your desired outcome (for example, do you want to improve your profile or just make it look better?).
The columella strut is inserted in a V-shaped cut in front of and below the columella (the central depression between your nostrils). The strut can be made from a piece of your own cartilage or from donated cadaveric tissue. The V-shaped cut should be made with two surgical incisions: one on each side of your nose where it meets your lip line. The cuts are then stitched together and covered with a sterile dressing.
If you have an enlarged hump on your nose, which can make you look older than you are, this procedure could help you look younger again.
The distance between the eyes and nose is one of the most important features of a person’s face. Many people believe that they have long noses, but in fact, they are normal. However, there are many people who are unhappy with their noses because they have a different shape than they would like.
The lifting of the tip of the nose is one of the more common methods used in rhinoplasty.
The tip is lifted by shortening the lower front area of the nasal septum, narrowing the lateral nostril cartilage and inserting a so-called “columella strut” made from the nasal septum’s own cartilage.
This method does not require any incision on the skin, but it is not possible to lift very much at once. For example, it is impossible to lift up more than 5mm at a time in this way.
Unlike lifting the tip of the nose, lowering it is done by shortening the front upper part of the nasal septum and alar cartilage.
The main disadvantage of this method is that it requires two incisions: one on each side and one in front of the earlobe.
