How many hours should we sleep?
We would like to share the results of the research conducted in the USA and accepted by some of the scientific circles. According to the research;
- For newborns aged 0 to 3 months, 14-17 hours of sleep per day is recommended. However, sleep duration of not less than 11 hours is also considered acceptable. Sleeping 18 hours or more for newborn babies is not considered appropriate for their mental and physical development.
- For babies between 4 and 11 months, the recommended sleep time is between 12 and 15 hours. According to the research, sleep of not less than 10 hours is also acceptable for this age group. It is pointed out that babies in this group sleep more than 18 hours, which is not beneficial for their development.
- In the study, which states that children between the ages of 1 and 2 should sleep at least 9 hours and at most 16 hours, it is mentioned that sleep lasting more than 16 hours is not beneficial in this age range.
- In the study, which is said that children between the ages of 3 and 5 should not sleep less than 8 hours or more than 14 hours, it is stated that this age group should sleep for an average of 11 hours.
- The recommended time for ideal sleep time between the ages of 6 and 13; It is shown as a minimum of 7, a maximum of 12 hours.
It is said that children between the ages of 14 and 17 should sleep at least 7 hours, just like in the upper group. The maximum recommended time to sleep is 11 hours. - In the 18-65 age group, where the results of the research are most criticized, a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 11 hours of sleep is considered sufficient. Keeping the indicated age range for sleep time recommendation so wide despite not using enough subjects; As we mentioned before, it has caused various reactions in scientific circles.
- For people over the age of 65, the ideal sleep time is recommended as a minimum of 5 hours and a maximum of nine hours.
