Effects and consequences

The consequences of addiction are sometimes very difficult for those affected and their families. They range from serious psychological problems (e.g. depression) and physical damage to premature death. In Germany, more than 40,000 people die every year as a result of their alcoholism, at least 110,000 people as a result of smoking and around 1,500 people as a result of addiction to “hard” drugs such as heroin. Overall, life expectancy is significantly reduced, around 10 to 15%. of addicts commit suicide.

Social consequences & financial problems

The inevitable consequence of an untreated addiction is usually social and professional decline. Unemployment and partnership conflicts up to and including separation threaten. Adolescents’ school performance declines sharply. Tendencies towards loneliness and withdrawal from the circle of friends can be observed in all age groups. Significant financial problems are often added, with the consequence of increasing indebtedness.

I’ve decided not to travel abroad in 2022 due to pandemic (I’m an nurse and worked on covid unit) so I’ve decided to take an overnight trip away each month so I visit somewhere new for such a lower cost. I’m always looking for free activities there. I love this video- it has such good content.

Amazing video Jane. The volunteering idea is excellent. My volunteering at the local food pantry has saved me as a single person living alone great people and there are occasionally leftovers that will go bad before the next Food Distribution so you can get leftover breads or other items. It is also a lot of fun
