Hair Loss Causes

Hair loss may be temporary or permanent depending on the nature of the disease and its causes:

Temporary hair loss may occur in women who are pregnant, or during menopause in menopause. In such cases, the problem is related to hormonal imbalance.

Permanent hair loss occurs in people who have a genetic predisposition to this problem, and also as a result of serious diseases.

Hair loss can be caused by many factors. Finding the cause of hair loss is not always an easy task, especially if there are several causes, and they interact with each other. The following list of causes of hair loss is divided into diseases in which hair loss is the main symptom (alopecia), and those in which it appears without any obvious connection with the disease (non-specific alopecias).

Hair loss is a very common disease in the population and can be caused by various factors. Suffering from hair loss can have many negative effects on the quality of life. The main symptoms of alopecia are hair loss, which in many cases leads to baldness.

The most common causes of hair loss are:

1. Hereditary predisposition to hair loss (male or female pattern baldness)

2. Diseases of the scalp

3. Hormonal disorders

4. Nutritional deficiencies (vitamin B6, zinc, iron)

5. Diseases affecting the whole body (thyroid problems, diabetes mellitus, lupus erythematosus) or those that affect only the scalp (psoriasis, lichen planus)

6. Effects of medications taken for other diseases (antidepressants, blood thinners), as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy in cancer treatment

7. Stressful situations and psychological problems

8. Wearing too tight hairstyles that put pressure on the hair follicles (ponytail, tight braids)

Each of them is characterized by a certain course of the disease, which makes it necessary to identify the causes of hair loss in order to choose an effective treatment that will stop hair loss and restore them to their former glory.

Steroid hormones are the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. Androgenic alopecia is a common form of alopecia in males. In 80% of cases, it is due to the presence of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), one of the most powerful derivatives of testosterone, which damages hair follicles.

Another significant cause of hair loss is hormonal imbalance, which can also lead to baldness. Various diseases and disorders can contribute to an imbalance in the body’s hormone levels. These include:

  • chronic kidney disease;
  • diabetes;
  • hyperthyroidism;
  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis;
  • polycystic ovary syndrome;
  • hormonal contraceptive use (in women).

Hair loss in women is associated with a variety of diseases, for example:

  • Autoimmune diseases and diseases of the immune system
  • Diseases of the thyroid gland
  • Severe infectious diseases
  • Genetic predisposition to hair loss
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Stressful situations
  • The use of some medications (antibiotics, anticonvulsants)

Sometimes hair falls out because they are damaged. For example, the use of coloring, curling and other procedures that adversely affect the structure of hair. The reason for this may be improper care of the scalp or dryness of the skin.

In such cases, it is enough to adjust the care procedures or choose a means with a more gentle effect. In addition, to strengthen and restore hair, natural oils can be used – olive, burdock, castor oil.
