Frontal and Eyebrow Lifting

Anesthesia

It is an operation that is carried out under local anesthesia and eventually sedation is added.

Risks

The risks are the same as for all surgical interventions: infection, even if the important blood circulation at this level makes it unlikely; other risks: hematoma, alterations in sensitivity or paresthesia of the treated areas. Enlargement of scars, which are hairless (no hair).

Postoperative

After the forehead and eyebrow lifting operation, the patient goes home with a turban dressing, which he will hold for the first 5 days. Then it will be replaced with a sporty type elastic band, or for the hair, rather tight, this for a total of 14 days. In the postoperative period, we would have edema of the source and eyelids for at least 10-15 days, a reduction in the sensitivity of the forehead and scalp closer to the hairline, which is recovered in a variable time.

Visit

In the past, the so-called mask-lift was practiced with greater habit, it consisted of lifting the tissues of the forehead, by means of an incision that went a few cm behind the hairline and almost from one ear to the other. This tissue was then unglued at the bone level and this intervention was taken advantage of not only to raise all the tissues of the forehead and therefore also of the eyebrows higher, but also allowed to interrupt the function of the frontal muscles and the corrugator with incisions, which caused the forehead and glabellar expression lines. Currently, thanks to the use of Botox, this type of intervention, even if it is quite invasive, is very limited. In this district, eyebrow lifting is more often done: a technique for correcting the ptosis of the eyebrow, especially in its lateral third.

The Intervention

Through much more limited incisions than the mask lift, always in the area of ​​the scalp, behind the hairline, therefore with concealed scars of a length of 5-6 centimeters. From these lateral incisions we then proceed to the dissection of the tissue of the forehead above the bone plane and then some traction points are applied in depth of the orbicular muscle, at the level of the eyebrow, which are bound to robust structures such as bands , in a higher part of the scalp, or possibly to screws fixed in the cranial theca. An excess part of the scalp is also removed. Currently, in order to avoid the widening of the scars of these incisions, albeit limited, and also as an alternative, in patients with low hair density, only three small incisions of 1-2cm can be made in the scalp, this will not however allow the removal of excess tissue. The advantage of the surgery, by raising the eyebrow higher, is also to lift the excess amount of skin on the upper eyelid. The hair is not cut at the incision area. The intervention lasts about 2-3 hours.
