Eyebrow Lift Surgery

The aging process in the upper floor of the face is manifested by leaving the tissues located above the orbit and is followed by the appearance of frontal wrinkles, ptosis (lowering) of the eyebrows, the appearance of excess skin on the eyelids; all these elements give the girl a sad, angry and tired look.

Sometimes patients require blepharoplasty because they may not appreciate that raising the eyebrow position is sufficient to correct excess skin on the upper eyelids; sometimes, for the best possible result, it is necessary to combine blepharoplasty with raising eyebrows

What are the causes of aging of the upper floor of the face?

decreased tissue elasticity
(gravitational) release of tissue
genetic predisposition
repetitive movements of the facial muscles cause aging of the upper floor of the face

What is the purpose of eyebrow lift surgery?

The purpose of raising the eyebrows is:

most natural eyebrow positioning:
getting a rounded eyebrow and slightly raised in the side half is very important in women
easy lifting of the upper eyelid and correction of its pseudoptosis
obtaining symmetry
removal of eye fatigue due to constant effort to frown to have a better visible field
widening of the upper visual field

What preoperative investigations are needed?

Blood tests

Usually only routine investigations are needed, confirming the patient’s health

Preoperative details

I will follow the following aspects during the preoperative consultation

I will evaluate the shape and position of the eyebrows, in relation to the other elements of the face and the proportions and the ideal position;
I will assess the degree of ptosis of the eyebrows and upper eyelids
I will notice a possible asymmetry in the shape and position of the eyebrows and eyelidsI will evaluate the possible limitation of the visual field
Take pictures of the periocular region
I will assess the patient’s health and receive information about his medical history.
I will recommend preoperative examinations (blood tests, imaging tests) and adjust or stop the administration of drugs that increase the risk of bleeding (aspirin, oral anticoagulants, natural remedies, etc.),
I would recommend quitting smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery.

When is surgery indicated?

Raising the eyebrows is a strictly individualized operation and as a result it can not be practiced to satisfy other people’s desires or to copy an ideal image. The plastic surgeon, taking into account the wishes and expectations of the patient, will determine what is the most indicated procedure for repositioning the eyebrows, possibly related to superior blepharoplasty. Sometimes these surgeries have medical indications (when lowering the eyebrows and the skin of the upper eyelid restricts the visual field). Sometimes this surgical procedure is performed only for aesthetic purposes.

Is an indicator when:

the position of the eyebrows is thrown out of the ideal position
Fallen eyebrows cause the upper eyelids to become heavier and the field to be visually restricted
the patient’s health is good
expectations are realistic

Are there any contraindications to raising eyebrows?

When there is a deficit of the skin in the upper eyelid, after previous blepharoplasty

How is the operation performed?

Eyebrow lifting is usually practiced under general anesthesia, but certain techniques can also be performed under local anesthesia accompanied by sedation.
The operation lasts on average 1-2 hours.
There are a variety of surgical procedures for lifting the eyebrows, differentiated according to the location of the incisions, as well as the way the eyebrows are anchored.

the incision can be placed either at the level of the upper edge of the eyebrows, at the medial-frontal level, at the level of the hair insertion line or in the scalp (coronary).
the dissection is made subcutaneously, subgaleally, or subperiosteally. The most common frontal lifting technique uses incisions made in the frontal scalp, and dissection is usually performed in the subgaleral plane, to the upper edge of the orbit.
section of wavy muscle insertion at the level of the glabella (region between 2 eyebrows), in order to prevent the formation of “frowning” wrinkles

there is a possibility of endoscopic dissection, through smaller incisions placed in the scalp; has the advantage of easier cutting of the muscles at the level of the glabella, responsible for the formation of “frowning” wrinkles
support and anchoring of the eyebrows in a high position is done with suspension threads, screws or strips
the skin of the incision is cut, depending on how much eyebrow lift is desired
sometimes a drainage pipe is placed at the level of the dissection area
