Surgical Technique

The cuts are set as you previously discussed with us. By the way, it is not necessary for the hair to be shaved before the procedure. The normal cut goes from the temple hair about 3-5 cm behind the hairline, passes in front of the ear and then ends behind the ears.

The skin is detached from the underlying tissue along the incision, and the connective tissue beneath the skin, the slack facial muscles and sunken fat deposits can be corrected. Ultra-thin, self-dissolving threads fix the sunken connective tissue and muscles in their original place.

After closing the edges of the wound with sunken, dissolvable threads and intradermal sutures, staples in the area of ​​the hairy scalp, you usually receive two drains and a light bandage around the head.

Result

With a facelift, the skin is tightened and your appearance rejuvenated. However, the natural aging process of the skin cannot be stopped by a lifting, but the signs of aging can be set back by approx. 10 years. How long the result of a lifting lasts depends on your individual abilities, your lifestyle and the condition of your tissue. It is usually not a problem to repeat the operation after 8 to 10 years.

Anesthesia – Hospital Stay

The procedure is usually performed on an inpatient basis. The procedure can be performed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with twilight sleep. It lasts about 3 hours. The hospital stay is 1 to 2 days.

Complications

After a major facelift, the feeling of skin in front of the ears or on the forehead can be impaired in the long term. Any bruising that may occur post-operatively can significantly delay the healing process and is therefore removed by a small surgical procedure. Due to the strong tension of the facial skin, hair loss can occasionally occur in the temple area. The hair usually grows back over the next few months.

Circulatory disorders of the skin as a result of excessive nicotine consumption can lead to wound edge necrosis and noticeable scars. These may need to be reworked. If bacterial infections set in, this can lead to wider scars due to the delayed, secondary healing of the wound. These can be corrected by another small intervention. Damage to the facial nerves, which is almost impossible in expert hands, generally regenerates within 3 to 6 months.

In isolated cases, skin and muscle nerve lesions can occur, but they regenerate on their own within weeks or months. Permanent facial muscle dysfunction due to nerve injury is an extremely rare complication.

After the Procedure

The bandage and, if necessary, the drains are removed after just 1 to 2 days, and the sutures and skin clips can usually be removed after 8 to 14 days.

The length of time until complete regeneration can vary greatly, depending on the individual predisposition and the extent of the intervention. After the operation, you should definitely allow yourself complete rest for 5 to 7 days. During this time you should not burden your skin with creams or ointments. Your skin is best at helping itself.

You can shower and apply make-up as usual after just 8 days. During the first 4 weeks, avoid nicotine and painkillers such as B. Aspirin. You should also consistently avoid direct sunlight for a period of 4 weeks. If you expose yourself to the sun in the weeks after the operation, sun protection with a high sun protection factor is recommended. You can usually resume your full range of sporting activities after 4 weeks.
