What is breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation surgery is a surgical procedure that aims to enlarge a woman’s breasts. There may be various reasons why you want to have breast augmentation surgery. It is the desire to have a larger breast in younger patients. This is especially true for women who think their breasts are too small.
In slightly older patients, it is mostly due to the desire to regain fullness of the breast by breastfeeding after one or more pregnancies. With age, the breast tissue gradually becomes looser, and breast augmentation surgery can restore the volume in the breast and eliminate this. At Roskilde Privathospital we have brought together more than 30 years of experience in plastic surgery, with a particular focus on breast-related operations.
Breast augmentation surgeries can consist of the following treatments with us:
- Breast augmentation surgeries with silicone implants
- Breast augmentation surgeries with own fat

Another treatment you can consider is a BFO with your own oil. Here, fat taken from the patient’s own body is used to enlarge the breasts. The treatment itself is done by absorbing oil from selected areas of the body and breasts with a thin needle. The most common places for liposuction are the abdomen, sides of the abdomen and thighs. Fat can also be taken from the patient’s balls.
This form of treatment is relatively new, but has become extremely popular in a short time as it gives an easy and natural result in removing fat from unwanted areas of the body. Finally, you avoid inserting artificial silicone implants into the body, which not everyone is equally comfortable with. Unlike breast augmentation surgery with silicone implants, it should be known approximately. 30% of the transplanted fat disappears in the first few weeks after surgery. On the other hand, there are significantly fewer side effects associated with this treatment.
Before the operation
Before any surgery, you will always need to go through an initial consultation. Here you have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about a possible treatment. The consultation is also an opportunity for us to use our experience to guide you on the treatment we believe will benefit you the most, based on your wishes. So here we will let you know what results you can expect from a possible treatment.
We will also dress you so that you can best prepare for your treatment. Here, it is especially important to prepare properly if you are going to have breast augmentation surgery with silicone implants, as the treatment is done under general anesthesia.
After the operation
After your treatment, you may experience some side effects as a result of your treatment. If you have chosen breast augmentation surgery with your own fat, you will not have the troubles of breast augmentation surgery with silicone implants. Here you will experience aches, pains and possible numbness. This is completely normal, but it is still important that you adapt to your daily life and stay calm. Of course, we will help you prepare for this part of the process so that you are both prepared and get the best out of this period.
After your treatment you will be called for a follow-up check where we will evaluate your progress and the final outcome of your treatment. In treatments with silicone implants, evaluation of the final result may take up to six months.
NOTE! If you have had implanted breast augmentation, you should also avoid raising your arms above your head and heavy lifting. You should lift a maximum of 2 kg. total first 4 weeks and maximum 1 kg. per arm. You should go for a walk whenever you feel like it. After 1-2 weeks, cycling trips are allowed. After 3-4 weeks, you can do sports taking into account the pain. You should be swimming 2-3 weeks after the operation – but the surgical wound should heal, ie. no visible crust.
